I’ve never seen the expression “to go it alone” before as in “Terrible, and it couldn’t go on like this. Sometimes he asked himself why he’d left his job as bar manager at the hippest hotel in the city to go it alone and take over this rundown bar with its pissed-up clientele”.
To go it alone = this is when you make a change in your life and decide to, for example, set up your own business without support from anyone. Perhaps Donald Trump is a bit like that if you adopt a charitable attitude towards him.
