I think he says:
(past tense)
Got some lumber, some hammer and nails, screws and CEDAR shims for the roof.

Cedar refers to the type of tree used for the wood shims. It is a soft wood that doesn’t rot like other woods. So it’s good for a roof.

You can see in the picture the kind of roof he is talking about. The article is about “shakes”. The man bought “shims” which are similar but smaller. Shims are supposed to be used for something else, but he is building a dog house so he uses shims because they are smaller and cheaper than real shakes.
