Hey, I’ve been wondering what to do with these sentences that contain a reference to a title held by one person at a time, such as the Pope, President, Prime Minister etc. What do you say I do?
He became the Pope/President/Prime Minsiter.
or
He became Pope/President/Prime Minister.
Personally, I’d opt for the latter because I know that in phrases like “He was elevated/promoted to…” we wouldn’t put an article before the name of the title.
