The word for today is "misconception"

Misconception :- The mistaken belief that something is a fact. Some examples? Certainly.

It is a misconception to think that ;

All Russians drink vodka.
All Chinese eat rice.
All Americans live in big houses.
All Japanese are Karate experts.
Friendly people are honest.
Rich people are intelligent.
You can trust a Bank to take care of your money.
Germany makes the best cars.
English people all have excellent grammar.
All Irish folk believe in leprechauns.

The list is endless

Yep! For instance: Not all those whose names are Gray are Gray…

Gray are Grey…

Let me append this in that list:

Kitosdad, Infin1ty and Gray are all offline

I’ll play the Devil’s advocate just for kicks:

  • Is there a single Chinese person (over the age of, say, 5) who has never eaten rice?
  • Aren’t friendly people generally honest? It would be a misconception to say that all friendly people are honest all of the time, but the misconception as stated isn’t really a misconception per se. Another thing to be defined is “honesty”.
  • Certainly many rich people are intelligent. Not all are, of course, but even then we must define intelligence.
  • I’ve never had a problem with my banks. I don’t particularly like overdraft fees, but it’s the price you pay for engaging in transactions you cannot afford. I’d rather the bank pass a check and charge a fee than for the bank to call the cops on me for writing a bad check.
  • Some think that Germans do make the best cars. It’s a matter of opinion. As such, let’s say that while it’s not a misconception, it’s also not an axiom. If I wanted a sports sedan, I may well choose a German model. Were I to go the route of the sports car, on the other hand, I’d likely look to one of the Italian superpowers (thus comes the question: which type of car?).

The rest of the statements very likely are misconceptions. I especially have a problem with words like “every”, “everyone” and “all”. I don’t like superlatives either, but since those are opinions (which someone, somewhere, might have), I don’t think that they necessarily make a statement a misconception.

OK, consider yourself kicked.!!

I agree, I know rich people, that do not be able to write.

…(you can add on more sentence as below…)
[color=blue]All the above sentences are cent percent correct…!

Jousef, that is a good idea, but unfortunately it still doesn’t solve the problem ,because not all folk know how to say the sound. The same applies to phonetic illustrations.

The only really certain way is to hear and repeat, that is why the recording facility offered here is so valuable.

This one might be fun:

  • Priests go to heaven.

Have at it!

(I purposely left the statement fairly vague… tons of angles on this one there are!)
