Someone tell me the proper use of the preposition ‘onto’.

‘Onto’ usually suggests movement as in: The glass fell from the table onto the floor… The lion leaped onto the smaller animal. It can also be used in a figurative sentence suggesting making contact with as in: I’ll get onto the police officer tomorrow.
