Can I speak in this way: “My favorite foods are pizza and salad.” ?
Food is an uncountable noun. Then, what word can replace with it in the sentence above? “Dishes”?
Besides, favorite is an adjective to describe something you like “most”. So, do you use it for one singular thing such as “My favorite book is~” . Isn’t it technically wrong to say “My favorite books are~”.? Something you like most must be one, isn’t it? Of course, I know “favorite” is used as an adjective and a noun for plurals: My favorite colors are red, yellow and green./Both ice cream and cake are my favorites. What do you think?
Although ‘food’ can be used as a count noun, it is normally uncountable. If we are talking about prepared food like pizza and salad, then I’d suggest, ‘My favourite dishes are…’.
You can have one or several favourite things. In fact, we would often be hard pressed to single out just one favourite.
Thank you for your help, Conchita!! “My favorite things” is actually one of my favorite songs, but it didn’t come up in my mind before you posted the reply.

Saying “My favorite foods are …” is fine in my book too. I often find it difficult to refer to something such as “pizza” as a “dish” since it a typical fast food here.

Haha, right. The ad copy for Korean Domino’s pizza says, “When you call to order a pizza, a dish is delivered to your home.” It means, of course, Domino’s pizza is not mere fastfood but afancy dish.
