Please read: What’s the time?

Besides the meaning “What time is it?”, does “what’s the time?” have another meaning?

“What’s the time?” could also possibly mean “How long did it take?” or “How much time has elapsed so far?” - for example, when a participant in a race is being timed.

Hi,

When my friend invite me to his party. If I’d like to ask him the time, can I say:

What’s the time?

I wouldn’t.

Instead you could just say “What time?” or “What time does it start?” or “What time shall I be there?” etc.

Hi,

If you asked him that, he would probably tell you what the time is. If you asked me now, I’d say: It’s 11.25 am.

If you asked your friend, you would say: At what time (is the party)?
