I don’t know for certain but I think the most common word is probably “than”.

In American English it’s ‘different than’ while in British English is ‘different from’ or ‘different to’.

Well they are both used in AmE, but I think ‘than’ is probably more common. It might also be regional.

I must be British. I would definitely say “from”, though “than” does not sound strange.
