the meaning of "Don't be cute"

What is ‘cute’ supposed to mean here?
When A is talking serious, and B responses, like, with a joke or something,
A goes,
“Don’t be cute!”
Does it mean, “Stop joking.” or “Don’t be cheeky, smart-arse” or something?
