The meaning of bleed ?

Recently, I have heard some of the phases concerned to “bleed” .
I only know one usage of bleed, it usually connects with “blood” . In the sentences below, It seems nothing to do with “blood”. Could you explain the meaning to me ? How many meaning the word “bleed” can take ?

For example :
In “bleeding love” (Leona Lewis song), there is a line : “Keep bleeding love”.

I opened up my heart to bleed, let you have the best of me, but you wouldn’t let me love you.

It is the same word, but used in a figurative rather than literal sense to denote suffering, often of an emotional sort.

Hi, Dozy

Sorry, I did not quite get your mean. I supposed you say the word "bleed has a different meaning in the 2 sentences above. I would be appreciate if you could you explain me more a bit about the meaning of these 2 sentences (interpret them in different way) for me. Thank you very much.

Hmmm. Perhaps my first answer wasn’t so great…

The full line is “You cut me open and I keep bleeding love”. Normally if you cut someone they bleed blood. In this song, the process of cutting and bleeding is being used as a metaphor for, as I thought, emotional suffering. In other words, a boyfriend has treated her badly (“cut” her), and she is suffering emotionally (“bleeding” love). At least, that’s what I thought. However, on looking again at the lyrics as a whole, it is slightly ambiguous, and you could read it in some places as meaning that she bleeds love just because she is so full of love.

In “I opened up my heart to bleed”, again, looking more closely, while there seems to be some rejection and emotional suffering involved, this “bleeding” seems to be more to do with giving oneself completely and honestly to someone else (in an emotional/romantic sense).

Hi, Dozy,

This time your post is excellent. Thank you very much for your passion and help.
