The lungs are responsible for removing oxygen from the air we ___ and transferring it to our blood where it can be sent to our cells

Hello, can you explain to me what answer is correct in this sentence?
The lungs are responsible for removing oxygen from the air we ___ and trasferring it to our blood where it can be sent to our cells.
A. breathe
B. Inhale
C. Absorb
D. Exhale
I though it was “inhale”, but the key was “breathe”. Can you explain me the differences between those two words and which is more suitable in this context?

Breathe and inhale mean almost the sane thing. Breathe is the right answer because in conversational English that’s how most people would say it.

This vocabulary question is not about the dictionary definition of the words. The question is about which words people would actually use.

It is very common to say 'The air we breathe … '. So, the answer cannot but be A.

There is some difference between ‘breathe’ and ‘inhale’.
Breathing is a process that involves both inhaling and exhaling while ‘inhaling’ means drawing air into lungs (one way).

I think of inhale as being a bit more of a medical/technical term.
