The last I knew, she was working as an estate agent in Nottingham. Can also I say “The latest I knew, …”?

Mr. Francis this the note my tutor had taught me:
The last(representing your only known note about him in the past and nothing else) I knew…
The latest(your current note about him and nothing else) I knew…
I dont think they are the same and one cannot be replaced by the other.

What is the difference between various and varied. Varied :we mean a large number or amount of sth.
Various: we mean not only a large number or amount of sth but also different things or object.Am i right? Thank you for your time.

Varied = things of different sorts
Various= differing from one another.

The last I heard/knew refers to the last piece of information about someone/something that you have. The latest I heard/knew refers to the most recent.
