the difference between'school report' and 'Mid year report/final report' ?

What is the difference between ‘school report’ and ‘Mid year report/ final report’ ? I am quite confused. Aren’t they all transcripts?

To me, a “report” would be a paper the student writes, while a “report card” is a report from the school stating the student’s grades.

A school report is a report the teacher writes about the student, This might be a mid-year (school) report or an end of year (school) report.

The others are not necessarily linked to school at all. Businesses and organisations often publish Mid Year or End of Year reports and the report indicates progress since the beginning of that financial year.

None of them are transcripts.

Thank you guys.

But I still do not understand. Maybe I did not make myself clear at the very beginning.

Here is the thing:
currently, I am applying for an American university. ‘School report’ and ‘mid-year report’ and ‘final report’ are application materials. Yet in China, these reports are basically the same thing, that is ‘transcript’. So…I wonder what do ‘school report’ and ‘mid-year report/ final report’ mean in U.S.

I’m American and have been to six different colleges and universities in three states. I have never heard the term ‘report’ used in this way. They might mean transcript, but that is only a guess.

If a university asks for something like that, then you should contact the university and ask for clarification.

Education in the US is done entirely at the state and local level. There is no national policy or rules. The terminology is not consistent. It can vary by state, locality, or individual school.

I’ve heard the word ‘report’ used in two ways. The first is a ‘report card’ which shows the grades for the students. Grades in the US are called marks in some countries. The report card is for the student and parents. It only provides a very small amount of information besides grades.

The other use of the word report means the same thing as essay. ‘Report’ is generally used with younger students. ‘Essay’ is generally used with older students with a higher expectation of quality.
