The difference between summit and peak

Could you please tell me the difference between “summit” and “peak”? In a picture I saw that the summit was higher than the peak.

Hi Tom

A summit is the highest point of a mountain, but a mountain can have a number of peaks since the land isn’t perfectly straight on the way up to the summit.

Hi Tom,

You might be interested to know that there is an area in the north of England known as the Peak District. We don’t really go in for mountains in the UK and this area is known for its multiplicity of high hills.
