the dentist's

Hello!
I would like to know if both sentences are correct:

  1. He likes to go to the dentists twice a year.
  2. He likes to go to the dentist’s twice a year.
    Thank you for your time!

#1 would mean that he visits more than one dentist. It is grammatically correct but not a very common thing to say.

#2 is possible with “dentist’s” meaning “dentist’s surgery” or similar. However, I would just say “He likes to go to the dentist twice a year”.
