So what is your favorite Christmas song? Mine is Yellin At The Christmas Tree by Billy Idol.
This is one of my favorites - I don’t know if it captures the “true meaning of Christmas”, but it definitely rings true to me. If you want to know about the white lower middle class {“redneck”} culture of East Texas, of which I am one generation removed {though sometimes not even that far removed}, this song will give you a quick 4 minute primer:
I like the Christmas song “Oh, Tannenbaum” because I like trees.
And “Carol of the Bells” because I like the sound of bells and snowy landscapes.

Although its name is “First of May”, this song is nicely inspired by … a Christmas Tree.
I think it’s the best Bee Gees’ song and I love it:
Any new proposals as to what the best Christmas song ever might be?
Oh Christmas Tree.
According to the translation
baum = tree
Weihnachtszeit = Christmas ?
So tannen means what? The type of tree? Like pine, fir or spruce?
Tanning leather in the old days used tannin from tree bark.
Yes, it literally means Christmas time.
I think the English equivalent might be “Fir tree” and it’s basically our Christmas tree. By the way, in recent years we decided to skip the whole Christmas tree business…
