Teaching using praise: essay.

Issue Task:
The best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

The process of learning is really complex, and a lot of variables should be analyzed in other to find the best teaching method. Learners need to develop all features, persuing the master level in some subject.
A solid mastery of a subject is only possible when learners develop the capacity to grow because they were able to overcome difficulties during the learning process. In other words, people become better in what they do not only because they were praised for their positive actions, but also, as a consequence of actions of teachers that were able to correct, or help them to correct by themselves, the negative ones. An example of this can be seem in a tennis player that has a really perfect forehand, but has a lot of trouble when the oponnent requires him to play with his backhand. By showing the pupile his negative actions, a possibility is opened for development. Additionally, teachers should concentrate in delivering a hollistic training and skills development, and this can only be delivered if both are pursuing the capacity to improve skills by learning by hits and errors.
Another consequence of this learning method – prasing positive actions and ignoring negative ones – is the possibility of the student think that he doesnt have to improve anything, and that all his skills are sufficient to do everything in this subject. Consequently, he could become weak, because there are many skills not developed, and arrogant, because he wasnt warned of his deffects, only praised by his skills. Take the case of an English student that goes to a foreign country and in his English classes on the past, was really good with grammar and other subjects but didn’t go well on speaking. As a result, this student should have a lot of difficult living in this country and doing basic things, even if, in the past, with some trainning, he probably might have become a good English practitioner.
However, even disagreeing with this learning method, I think that there isnt a best way to teach, and, consequently, to learn, it deppends on the student’s profile and how he is more confident about learning something. Some people, not much self-confident, could feel bad with a lot of thinks to improve and develop, even on the first steps of the learning process. So, I think that, in general, praising the positive actions and ignoring negative ones couldnt lead a lot of students to reach their best in a subject and is not a good method to teach.
