Structure and Written Expression

Q 1. Parkinson’s is a disease of the nervous system for which, although patients can no be expected to live longer and more active lives, there remain no cure.

I need to identify the underlined word or phrase that must be changed in order for the sentence to be correct. Need explanation. Please help.

Hi, I think the question must be:

Q 1. Parkinson’s is a disease of the nervous system for which, although patients can be expected to live longer and more active lives, there remain no cure.

I think if you split it up into its two clauses, it might be easier to find the error:

Parkinson’s is a disease of the nervous system for which there remain no cure.
although patients can be expected to live longer and more active lives

Luschen,
“Parkinson’s is a disease of the nervous system for which there remains no cure.
although patients can not be expected to live longer and lead more active lives.”
Is this sentence OK?

Allifathima - you gave away the answer! But still, you are correct, although you don’t actually need the “lead”, you can “live lives”, then “longer and more active” would modify “lives”. The “lead” is fine though and does not really change the meaning of the clause (which is not a complete sentence on its own).

Sorry, on reading this again, the “not” shouldn’t be there - it should be " Parkinson’s is a disease of the nervous system for which, although patients can be expected to live longer and more active lives, there remains no cure."

Luschen, Allifathima, Thank you very much for your kind assistance.
