Shouldn’t this read ‘the sterling will rally’ instead of ‘sterling will rally’?

I don’t think so. By the way, what does ralky mean? The word rally also means recover.

No need for the article as it is a word describing British money not a particular unit of money. It is short for ‘sterling silver’. You say - the price of gold also. Contrast - the pound, the dollar, the yen and so on.
