Sports ← ← ←

A: Did you go to the basketball game on Friday?
B: No, I couldn’t make it.
A: You missed a really good game.
B: Oh, really? Who won?
A: Our school did. They played really well.
B: Too bad I was busy. I really wanted to go.
A: Yeah, you should have. It was really exciting.
B: So what was the score?
A: The score was 101-98.
B: Man, that was a really close game.
A: That’s what made it so great.
B: I’ll make sure and make it to the next one.

Could you define or differentiate between SPORTS and GAMES?

People argue about the difference between a sport and game.

To me (and most other people) a sport is an athletic and physical activity. It’s usually competitive.

Games are more for entertainment and are usually non-physical.

It’s really hard to define an exact difference. It’s basically something we just memorize. Some activities are called games and some are called sport.

Then there is dance which can be very athletic, but it is not called a sport.

A sport is exerting activity, and a game is an entertaining activity.
That that involves both may be called by a portmanteau SPAME! :innocent:

To follow on with what NN said,
Hunting and fishing are sports, but aren’t competitive so they aren’t games.
Monopoly and checkers are games, but aren’t physical, so they aren’t sports.
Chess is a game. People argue that it’s also a sport because at the highest levels it requires good physical conditioning to be able to concentrate for hours.

The meaning of Sports.
I think that there is another meaning that could apply here, and that is in addressing the group of activities that are individual sports.

The TV show “Sports Center” is on at 11:00.
He was not interested in sports in college. (A group or category of activities)
