Spell check in the forum!

Hi

Is there any Spell Check in the forum? Since I do not want any typos to be there in what I write, it takes me quite some time to proofread my writing. Still when I submit the post…it is brimful of typos!

Tom

Hi Tom. As of now we don’t have a spell check feature at our forum but it’s on the list of things we want to add with the next upgrade.
In the meantime you can use an external program such as EditPlus or even Microsoft Word. Just create your text, spell check it and then copy and paste it into the forum.

Nice to ‘see’ you, Slava!

I think in four months (that seem like ages) this is the first time you ever answered my query.
By the way, how do you do?

Tom

Tom, most of the time I have to concentrate on programming. If only one character in the code is incorrect the entire system may not run correctly. That’s why I have answered so few questions on the forum. In the next months this might change and maybe I will have to more time to talk with you here…

Are you guys a twin brothers

.
You do ask some unique questions, nami…
.

Do me a favor and don’t add it. I don’t want to use UK spelling in my posts, and I’m sure many Canadians won’t want to use US or UK spelling. In fact, the Canadians probably won’t be able to spellcheck correctly, because most companies – particularly Micro$oft – don’t have a Canadian spellcheck dictionary. This causes problems for some people, but the companies don’t care.

Jamie, I still believe that a word spelt according to UK or US standards is better than a word spelt according to no standards at all. Please see below:

2- Colors
3- Colros

And, needless to say, you are a fast typist! I am pretty sure you can type without looking at the keyboard, am I wrong, Jamie?

Any slow and inexperienced typist like me would like his/ her incorrectly spelt words to be underlined automatically so that he/ she can correct them.

Tom

I do lots of spelling mistakes in English.
But it’s a language learning forum… and I prefer to have a feedback from people.

I also know well that when/if software ‘check-and-correct(s)’ spelling mistakes automatically, you (a learner, - nothing personal) might not recognize some of his/her typical spelling errors, ever.
And – so - never learn correct spelling…

More pleasant and comfortable, of course, but not the best, generally…

I wouldn’t not use such a function here, even if it be optional.

.
I agree with Tamara. In fact, I specifically tell my students not to use spell check programs when they’re doing homework assignments.

Here is one of the classic paragraphs to show why spellchecking is no good unless you know how to spell.

You are right in saying that a software spell checker can’t teach you correct spelling but it can do a great job in eliminating typos. I always run my messages through a spell checker when I compose an email. Here on the forum I use Babylon to make sure my texts don’t contain any spelling errors.

By the way, a lot of forum users have difficulties with their punctuation and a spell checker usually doesn’t recognize all those little things. I believe that you yourself should be your best spell checker.

Practice how to type correctly and your written communication skills will improve too.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Hello everybody! If you really want a good online spell checker that also works here on the forum you should install and use Firefox 2. It has the best spell checker I have seen so far.
Try it out, it works great!

To spell check a webpage or a forum thread you can use a online spell checker like Wonderspell (http://www.wonderspell.com)

Hi Peter,

It’s much better to use an integrated spell checker such as the one you can get for Firefox. That way you can spell check and amend any of your forum posts instantly without having to leave the forum.[YSaerTTEW443543]

A user above asked if there is a spell check for this forum. Yes, there is a program called Spell Check Anywhere that adds spell checking to all programs-- including forums. It can be found at http://www.SpellCheckAnywhere.Com.
