Hi!

Greeting Conversation

A: Hi, how are you doing?
B: I’m fine. How about yourself?
A: I’m pretty good. Thanks for asking.
B: No problem. So how have you been?
A: I’ve been great. What about you?
B: I’ve been good. I’m in school right now.
A: What school do you go to?
B: I go to PCC.
A: Do you like it there?
B: It’s okay. It’s a really big campus.
A: Good luck with school.
B: Thank you very much.

1- Is this a natural conversation?

2- What does “So” mean in this sentence?
So how have you been?

3- Why “right now” and not “now”?
I’m in school right now.

Thank you

1- Is this a natural conversation?
Yes, I think so

2- What does “So” mean in this sentence?
So how have you been?

First, I would punctuate this with a comma or a dash. It’s really separate from the rest of the sentence. There’s probably a significant pause there when spoken.
“So, how have you been?”
It doesn’t really mean anything. It’s just a crutch to indicate you’re changing the subject.

3- Why “right now” and not “now”?
I’m in school right now.

It’s emphasizing a bit more precision as to “now”. Not just generally now, but more precisely now. Perhaps it’s a recent change or it may be temporary.

A similar use might be “The game is about to start right now.”
