Smell as continuous

Is this use of “smell” OK?

It’s smelling good. I can’t wait.

Sounds like a typical ESL mistake to me and I guess you are going to tell us that it’s correct in Indian or Nigerian English.[YSaerTTEW443543]

I’ve heard it mostly in BrEng, actually. Why is it a mistake, T?

So, if we take you at your word, M, you’re saying in BrE, the verb smell is used in the continuous form just like and just as often as any other verb. Is that correct?
.

Not sure where you got the “just like and just as often” part from, A. Is there a problem with “It’s smelling good. I can’t wait.” for you?

Hi,

Just a thought for a Wednesday morning. As the old saying goes: Some people can fall into the lavatory and come up smelling of roses.

The chocolates?!

You never get tired of this stuff - it’s amazing! If you think ‘it’s smelling good’ is an OK sentence, you could break the news in your initial question for a change. Why not have courage of your convictions?
