Sloppy and shoddy work

Hello friends! Tell me, please the difference between the exc. “sloppy work” and “shoddy work”

Many thanks
Batman

Hi Batman,

Both these adjectives suggest that the work has not been done accurately or properly. ‘Sloppy’ refers to the way you do something- that you haven’t paid much attention to the way you have done it. You could describe a company as behaving in a sloppy way if they don’t phone you when they say they will, that they send the wrong things and do not answer the phone when you telephone to complain. ‘Shoddy’ describes the work itself - that it is not done accurately. You could employ someone to paint your house- if the work is shoddy it means they’ve not painted it everywhere - they have missed places and not finished it properly.
