Simple Present Questions (Unit 8)

How to ask a question

In order to ask questions you need the verb “to do”, a personal pronoun and the infinitive:

example:I go.” The question: “Do you go?

“Do”“to do”
“you”the personal pronoun
“go”the infinitive

Do I speak English?
Do you watch TV?
Does he open the window?
Does she like rock music?
Does it work??
Do we go to the theatre?
Do you work?
Do they read books?

Be careful: “He, she, it - the ‘s’ must fit” but:
Do not put the ‘s’ at the end of the verb! Only use the infinitive!
The ‘s’ has to be put at the end of the verb ‘to do’:

→ "does he/ she/ it "?

Yes, you are right, Office. We use “does” only with he, she and it. By the way, the word “u” does not exist in English.

HELLO SIR,
HERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS
DO U LIKE NATURE?
DOES HE LIKE U?
DOES SHE GO THERE?
DO U CALL ME AS GOOD?
DO U PRAISE ME?
DO U LIKE NOVELS?
SIR, WHAT IS INFINITIVE?(CLEAR MEANING)

Sir, Kindly explain usage of TO BE and WILL BE. It confuses me many times.

Hi msudan,

There are no ‘sirs’ on this forum  In a formal letter, you can write ‘Dear Sirs’ in the salutation.

To answer your question - ‘to be’ is the infinitive form that results in ‘I am’, ‘You are’, ‘He is’ etc in the simple present, and ‘will be’ is used with reference to the future. “I will go home after work, I think.”

let me ask you some questions like you said:

do you love me?
does he speak english?
do we eat?
do they dance with me?
do you learn about verbs?

Let me know if i make some mistakes!

hello sir,
do you like coffee?
does she like chess?
does he watch a television?
do you like to go out with friends?
do you watch wrestling?

Hi gomez, hi pghai,

All of your examples are fine except for the ‘watch-TV’ example. It should read

“Does he watch television?”

Take care,

Ralf
