Should students assess their teachers?

Schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

A fervent debate exists as to whether the performance of teachers should be evaluated by their students or not. So far as I am concerned, assessing the work of one’s teachers has many advantages, due to the following reasons.

Grades encourage students to be industrious. Similar to this, marks can promote teachers to try their best, instead of teaching in a mediocre way. Being under pressure makes teachers be driven to do a terrific job. By having continuous evaluations of their works, teachers get to know whether their jobs are done correctly or not. If they are done wrongly, measures should be taken in order to teach better.

According to public summary of the performances of the educators, their works are assessed taking into consideration not only the material that they use in class, but also how good their lectures are, and how well they deal with the problems of their students. The highest a teacher ranks, the best teaching he/she may impart. If students have the opportunity to take courses that are imparted by effective educators, they will excel in their studies.

When teachers score too low on their assessments over and over again, it means that they are ineffective educators, who should be replaced promptly; because it shows that they do not want to correct their errors. When the students have some faults, educators will tell them to correct them. Therefore, teachers should lead by the example; if not, students will behave in the same wanton and deviant way.

Giving the chance to assess their teachers, students are granted with the freedom of speech. Their opinions are born in mind. They no longer have to follow wrong instructions, because they can raise their voices to avoid making huge mistakes led by incompetent or authoritarian educators.

In brief, controversial as it may seem, students ought to be able to evaluate the work of their teachers. By excelling in teaching, the teacher and his/her students win. This is because educators can attain improvement in their teaching methods, while learners can learn a big deal, if they follow a good guidance.
