With the pressures on today’s young people to succeed academically, some people believe that non-academic subjects at school ( eg : physical education and cookery ) should be removed from the syllabus so that children can concentrate wholly on academic subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Hi, Kitos, this is the first time i have posted my essay. help me check mistakes, please. thanks you in advance!
In modern society, most people consider success in the academy is one of the best ways to prepare for the future professional career. Therefore, some people think that some non-academic subjects such as physical education or cookery should be removed from the syllabus so that children can give all their attention to academic subjects. Personally, I disagree with this opinion because of several reasons.
First of all, it is widely seen that non-academic subjects can help children improve their health as well as living skills which are not less important than academic knowledge. When they attend physical education class or football match , they can improve their physical and mental health, which help them relax and reduce stress, tiredness from studying hard in classes like math, chemistry…and then study effectively.Besides, children can develop a correct sense of responsibility during the competitive sports. While taking part in team sports, children also learn to cooperate and compromise and simultaneously foster a strong team spirit needed for future success.
Especially, from non-academic subjects, children also may have chance to find out their innate talet early in some fields such as soccer, cooking, painting, ect so that they can have the orientations and make right decision about their career. In other words, non- academic subjects may lay foundation in their future. Maybe, someday they will become the famous football players or chefs, music stars thanks to the stimulation in football matchs or cooking class …at school.
In the future, the society will be highly unpredictable and changeable. Academic courses alone will not be enough to prepare children for the challenges of an increasingly uncertain world. It is important to promote an all-round education in order to develop heart, mind and spirit. So,we should make stronger the importance of holistic education and realize that education is not just about academic achievements but also bout character, leadership , independance… and service to the community which can mainly be learnt from non-academic courses.
Above of all , i believe that the purpose of education is to tell children all kinds of knowledge including academic and non-academic knowledge in an easy atmosphere. The children should learn knowledge by playing games, listening stories and taking some sports.I think that every field of study is unique and important in its own right. The importance of academic subjects does not mean that non-academic can be skipped. There must be a balance in school’s curriculum that will help children grow up comprehensively.
