shoot vs. play

Hi,

My English book says “Let’s go shoot pool” sounds weird so we should change it to “Let’s go play pool”.

I don’t understand why. “shoot pool” is same as “play pool” (maybe more casual… anyway) Then “Let’s go shoot pool” might be right. What do you think?

‘Shoot pool’ is as fine and natural as ‘play pool’. Cast your English book into the fiery furnace.

I agree, and in fact I think people say “shoot pool” more than they say “play pool”.
