Shaun the Sheep

Hi,

I used to watch tv show ‘‘shaun the sheep’’ s often and i would like to know what does ‘‘shaun’’ mean? As I’ve looked through the dictionaries and google but i’ve found nothing.

Shaun the sheep is a well known cartoons show, silence sequels.

Shaun is a proper name, like John. In fact, it is derived from John. So Shaun is the name of the sheep. Notice that sheep can be plural as well as singular.

Hi Puppet,

Did you include that ‘s’ thinking that it had to be used to pluralise something as Cerberus suggests? If so, was it because you watched more than one episode of the show?
Even though you watched several episodes, you watched that one particular TV show - so singular is needed.
Even though there are a number of sheep, Shaun is one particular sheep and the show is named after him - so singular is needed.
You could use a plural form if you wrote this:
I watched a lot of episodes of ‘Shaun’ the Sheep and would like to know…

Incidentally, the name of the sheep, ‘Shaun’ is also a play on words by the creator, Nick Park, who named the sheep ‘Shaun’ because it sounds so much like ‘shorn’ which is the past participle of ‘to shear’ - if a sheep is shorn, it has had all its wool cut off.

Hi Cerberus™,

Thank you so much, big help.

Beeesneees Hiiiiiiii,

‘‘S’’’ was involuntary mistake. Thanks for ‘‘shaun might came from shorn’’

and for the rest.
