Hi Kitosdad,

Personally, I think your performance is comparable to that of Tony Benett’s. I’d say that you’d make a fine jazz singer. Your baritone voice has that…I don’t know how I should put it…mature tone. I love it!

Why don’t you sing some more Kitos?

I really liked the way you sang the song. I think that if learners would just sing their faovourite English song at least 3x a day, pronounciation drill would be easier and more fun. Don’t you think?

Hi Ari!
Nice attempt, you are born singer. I have to agree with you the rap is not suitable for improving the pronunciation skills as long as the text is not well censored.
My favourite singer is 50 cent (from the rappers) but I prefer not to sing any of his song right now

Hi there Abdoo,

How are you doing?

I think that your flow is nice and that this method will definitely suit you. However, I think that you need to work more on your [sh] /ʃ/ such as in :

[Share] /ʃæ®/
[Precious] /preʃəs/
[Show] /ʃəʊ/

You seem to replace the sound /ʃ/ in those words with /s/.

Practise some more by singing along the original song and check back with us as soon as you think that you have improved.

Thank you for your kind response.

You are correct about picking a song for practice. Many of the rap songs indeed use poor grammar and most of them contains at least a hint of offensive words.

But when it comes to songs, I guess that we can’t protest. A song is a product of art and art itself is highly subjective. One could say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I hope that my song could somehow serves as a remedy for your broken heart ;-).

Hi Abdoo,

I don’t really have additional notes. Not that I can think of from your last performance.
Your speech is still accented, but it is not too great as to hinder casual conversation.
Speaking of which, if I may guess, do you come from somewhere in the Middle-East or Turkey?

Keep practicing and try to thin out your accent. Try to post and sing (if feel like it. If not then reading aloud would do just fine) some more after you practise. Or, you could sing one of the songs that has been posted in this thread.

Hi Abdoo,

Yes, I can understand you with little, if no effort at all. Being an accented speaker doesn’t have to mean that you are inaudible, you know? Many native speakers even find that accented English speech (accurate and fluent ones, of course) as pleasant.

If I were your teacher, I would give you 85 out of 100. Congratulations!
100 means that your speech is so native-like that people may not be able to guess where you come from just by listening to your speech.

Without any compliment, you’re a very advanced English speaker that I can’t distinguish between your speech and the speech of native speaker .

That’s just right. One of the effective ways of drilling pronuciation is to sing. Try to sing as many songs you like as as possible. Of course, try to follow the native singers’ pronunciation as much as possible.
I am not a vocalist but I will sing other songs if I have condition to do that. Playing guitar and singing was what I usually did in my free time. Unfortunately, I do not have much free time any more.
If you have any funny ideas about practicing English by singing songs, please share with everyone.
