Hi, it just occurred to me that series and serious are pronounced the same way, that is, they are homonyms, right?

They’re not pronounced the same way. Series is pronounced [sIri:z], and serious is pronounced [sIriy@s] (The character @ is supposed to indicate a schwa.) Series has two syllables, and serious has three.
Also notice that “series” ends in a [z] sound, and “serious” ends in an [s] sound.
