Security guard fired

Hi,

Could someone please explain the meaning of above sentence?

Regards,
William

I don’t know what Ram or who Ram is. Maybe a person’s name? A security guard is someone who protects a building or business, sort of like a private police officer. Fired here means the security guard lost his job.

Yes, it is a person’s name. In fact you will find this name (called Ram/Rama/Raman) in the Ramayana, an epic whose title itself is derived from ‘Ram’.

I think the meaning would be better understood if you said the security guard was dismissed from service or his service was dispensed with. And, to avoid ambiguity, the sentence can be restructured as ‘For talking to his wife, Ram fired the security guard’, though the reason for sacking him is flimsy.

Thank you
