Saying: 'When people eat meat they do not...'

Hi

Could you please tell me what the following saying means?

‘When people eat meat they do not want to realize that they are eating a dead animal’

Since eating meat is not a bad thing, I would not interpret it as ‘When people do something bad they neither want to think about it themselves nor want others to remind them of it’.

Eating meat is a bad thing for some people, Tom. Nevertheless, the sentence has nothing to do with good or bad; the writer is merely opining that meateaters do not like to think in detail about what they are eating, which is a dead animal.
