I was just a very [color=red]average run-of-the-mill kind of student…

“Run-of-the-mill” means “average or ordinary,” so isn’t [color=red]average redundant?

Hi Tofu,

I suppose it’s not absolutely necessary but if you want to stress the ordinariness, what’s wrong with it?

Alan

I would find that redundant, too. But redundancy is common.

Thank you, Mordant and Alan.

I don’t like the word ‘redundancy’. If it’s common, it suggests it’s used a lot. Let’s keep using it! Don’t let’s put our learners off from using the living language.

Alan

Too much protesting, I fear!
