Round dotted

Hi
I cannot understand the meaning of “found dotted” in below sentence, may I ask you to explain it to me?

Most stepwells are found dotted round the desert areas of Gujarat (where they are called vav) and Rajasthan (where they are called baori).

Thanks & Regards
Swan

Really thanks.

‘dotted round/around’ is the term which means scattered about.
‘found’ just acts in the usual way
found dotted around - found scattered about here and there
seen dotted around = seen scattered about here and there
are dotted around = are scattered about here and there

But my sentence was “dotted round” not “dotted around”?!?

Yes. ‘round’ and ‘around’ are interchangeable. (BrE and AmE differences, both acceptable in the UK)
