Sorry but this sentence is not right, there are several mistakes and I don’t understand “such as there” at all.
Possibly: Extreme weather events such as these are dramatic reminders of the power of the wind.
Yes that sounds good.
But why can’t it be memories?
The memory is the faculty of the brain that can think back to past events, or it is the collection of your memories. A memory is a picture of an event, stored in your brain. A picture of an event is not an event. A reminder is anything that points the mind towards a memory.

Reminders can draw out memories (Bring them to the fronts of our minds so that we remember them).
