I’ve been having problems with using singular and plural forms of nouns…please take a look at the below sentence:
“There is much reason beyond it…”
“There are many reasons beyond it…”
Do they mean the same thing? Or is one more preferred than the other?
It depends on what you are talking about. Here, context is everything. Without it, it’s not possible to tell whether you are speaking of many individual reasons or of ‘reason’ joined together as a single entity.
In fact it is just as likely that ‘there is much reasoning beyond it.’ would be appropriate.
