- We ran into an accident on our way home from the picnic.
- We met with an accident on our way home from the picnic.
Are these two OK?
Which one is more appropriate and used by the natives?
They are both okay but they don’t mean the same thing, and ‘ran into’ is not the best of the possible options to use as it sounds rather as if you collided with an accident…
ran into /came across/ stumbled across an accident (You were not involved in it, but you saw it).
met with an accident (The accident happened to you).
Beeesneees,
- I ran into some trouble with my computer, it’s just not booting.
1a. I met with some trouble with my computer, it’s just not booting.
Is there any difference in meaning? - I ran into some problems.
2a. I met with some problems.
2b. I face with some problems.
Do they mean the same?
1/1a
I wouldn’t use ‘ran into’ or ‘met with’ in that context because it’s the wrong tense. I would just say ‘have some trouble’ most naturally, You could say ‘I’ve run into…’ or ‘I’ve met with’ but they don’t sound as natural (particularly the second one). In this case, yes, they carry the same meaning. As has been explained many times previously, structures don’t always follow the same pattern when you change the vocabulary and the context.
2b should be “I was faced with some problems”. They would all be more or less the same.
Beeesneees,
1.
For " I was faced with some problems.",
can I say: “I faced with some problems.” in active voice?

2.
2a. If Sita is not careful with her weight now,
she will run into a lot of problems later.
2b. If Sita is not careful with her weight now,
she will meet a lot of problems later.
2c. If Sita is not careful with her weight now,
she will face a lot of problems later.
Are all these sentences OK?
- I faced with problems’ is incorrect. ‘I faced problems’ is the simple version.
The 2s are okay, but I don’t feel ‘meet’ is the most appropriate term in that context.
