question about TOEFL listening

what is the professor’s opinion about the dot-com crash?
A she thinks that people should have realized it would happen
B she does not believe that anything like it will happen again
C she is surprised that it did not have more serious consequences
D she is confident that people learned a valuable lesson from it

the answer is A, my question is which sentences in the lecture indicates that the professor think that people should have realized is would happen? Is it the last one? Could you tell the sentence and give your reason to me? thank you very much!

Hello Wal6,
I think the correct answer is Num (A) “as you said’
The indicated sentence is " You’d think that by the 90s, people would have learned from the past. If they did, well,
look at tulips.”
AS it’s identifying how people didn’t learn the lesson as the tulips don’t show that.
This is how I understand it,wish it’d be helpful

Hello Wal,

Where is that listening exercise? There seems to be an error in the first line. (What does that bring to mind?). The line about tulips doesn’t make any sense to me, either.

I agree that (A) is the answer because this sentence
You’d think that by the 90s, people would have learned from the past.
indicates that the professor believed that by the time this ‘boom and bust’ period took place, people should have seen it happen over and over in the past.

It seems likely that the mention of tulips is a reference to this (perhaps the world’s first boom and bust).

Thanks for the illumination!

Thank you very much. But I still cannot understand the meaning of the last sentence. What can I infer from this sentence? In the penultimate sentence, the processor said that people might have learned from the past. In the last sentence, she said:“If they did, look at tulips”. Does these sentences indicate that actually people don’t learn from the past because if they did, they would learn from the tulips crash which is the first crash in the world; so the dot-com crash would not happen but it happened?
