Pronounce /e:/ or /a:/

Hi all,

The American person always pronounce /e/ (long /e/) as /a:/.
Is that right for all cases?Is there a rule?

Ex: shrank, stamp, latter,
financial, maths, camera, magazine, understand, language, manner…

Can all long /e/ in the above cases be pronounced as /a:/?

We need to discuss phonetics. I see no ‘long e’s’-- all I see are /ae/. None of those words would be pronounced with /a:/ in any major regional AmE dialect I can think of.

Yes, What I’d like to say is /ae/ (I can’t find this symbol in my computer).

Ex: Man /maen/ is pronounced /ma:n/ by American people.

So, for you, none of those words can be pronounced /a:/?

They certainly can be, but it makes them sound pseudo-upper-class British, as untravelled Americans conceive it.
