What do you think Amy means by “participated” there?
I hazard to guess;

Hi,
As a paid up member of the awkward squad I get the feeling that this ‘moderator’ discussion is reaching the realms of the fanciful.

Hi Alan
Really, shame on you for shaking your awkward stick at this intriguing debate.
Do you get a stick with membership to this squad?
Why a squad and not a club? Oh sorry it is to be awkward, got it.
cheers stew.t.

Yes, yes, Stew, but what does identifying “who had and who had not participated in a given thread” do for the forum?

Why?
Hi Molly
Thanks for elaborating, and therefore clarifying your question.
Will leave that to fair Amy to answer.
Hi Molly
Since I feel sure that you understood my last post perfectly, I see no need for any “clarification”. On the off chance that you actually didn’t understand, I suspect that no amount of further “clarification” will do any good.

Well, I didn’t understand it, but if when given the chance to clarify, you decline, what can I do?

Have you considered putting on your top hat, tying up your white tie, and brushing off your tails?
(It is often strangely consoling.)

One thing’s for sure, Mr P, you hold the record in quoting me, you deerstalker, you.

you dear stalker, you
Why, Molly, I would never have guessed…

Should forum moderators get involved in thread discussions only in an independent way or should they still keep on their moderator hat when doing so?
They need to express their opinions, too.

Of course, but how are we to tell when a person is expressing, on this website, his personal opinion and when that of a moderator?
It’s got to be a pain in the butt for the moderator to keep up with, but a fairly common usage I’ve seen on some boards is for a moderator to use one color of text (something that obviously stands out) for his or her ‘mod voice’ and another color text (usually the default color) for their personal comments.

Yeah, I’ve seen the same thing. They usually use the red color to put their foot down and restore the order.
.
Oh boy!-- and after I have tried to convince so many posters to avoid all the garish, distracting technicolor. Sorry-- I’ll stick with monochrome.
.
And now we’ve got ordinary members making attempts at moderating!

Yankee is one of the main off-topic posters here. I’ve never seen her suggest the closing of threads where she, Mr P and Jamie go way off-topic and for numerous posts. What’s happening?

Sounds like good policy.

Just delete the off-topic posts.
Are you attempting to stifle the opinions of everyone except yourself, Molly?
Personally, I find my suggestion (that a particular thread be locked) to be much less drastic than, for example, your demand in the quote from July 16th. But that’s just my own opinion.
