Preposition in the sentence: I like sitting in/on my balcony in the summer.

Dear teachers, could you answer me which preposition should I use in this sentence; ‘‘I like sitting in /on my balcony in the summer.’’
Here is another question for you,of course if you don’t mind.Which article is correct and Why?
‘‘Athens is a/an European city.’’
Many thanks. GOD bless you and your families.

Hope this may help you:

  • a + singular noun beginning with a consonant sound i.e. begins with a consonant ‘j’ sound: a university; a unicycle; a European.

  • I myself prefer “sitting on the balcony” to “sitting in the balcony”

Thanks
