potato/ potatoes

Do I use “potato” (singular) when I mean a dish and “potatoes” (plural) when I mean vegetables?

Hi Lily,

If you use the word as describing a noun as in potato dish/saucepan/salad and
so on, then it would be singular. You would use it in the plural when you are talking about individual items. This is the same as with apples/pears/bananas and on on.

This is an apple tart and is made of apples and pastry.
