In the listening passage the professor speaks about a special group of polysemic words, which poses not different meanings, but opposite ones. This group includes bolt, fast, sanction and so on. For instance, the word “bolt” means “to lock”, “not to move”, while at the same time it may be interpreted as “moving very quickly”. Or the word “fast” also can be interpreted as “staying still” and “moving quickly”. As to the word “sanction”, the verb “sanction” means “to permit”, while the phrase “to put a sanction”- “not permit”.
