In some classes, course grades are based on solely on exams, while other classes, grades are based more on class participation than on exams. Which type of grading do you prefer? Use specific reasons to support your response.
Grades students get are often affection of their knowledge for professors. It is up to professors to decide on which way they will check students knowledge. In my opinion, grades which are based solely on exams are better way of grading knowledge. In the following paragraphs I will give some reasons to support my choice.
First of all, students get to correct themselves while writing. When students write down the answer on a piece of paper, they are available to check on them once again. Maybe in a hurry students forget to write something, or write some incorrect informations, and on this way they get one more opportunity to correct that.
Furthermore, these days groups of students are often too big. Therefore, maybe there will not be enough time for every student to respond on professors question on the most adequate way.Every student is an individual and need certain timing to prepare and answer. From my experience gained in school, most of the students needs time to think about the question and it is impossible to get every student that time for thinking according to large number of another students that need to answer too.
Finally, students can often be nervous and shy while responding in front of whole classroom. When nervous, they may start stammer, or may forget some important things to say, or, in worst case, can block and do not know what to say. In contrast, writting exams is less stresfull.
In conclusion, I would definitely prefer that my course grades are based solely on exams. This way of grading is certainly less nervous and stressful with a time line which is equal for everyone and the best thing, I would get a chance to check once more on my answers and correct them if there are some mistakes.
