Subject:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People pay too much attention to the less important things in life and fail to see the larger issues. Use specific reasons and details to explain your opinion.
I disagree with the above statement for the following reasons. First, can we generalize this type of statement to all mankind, or even to a group of human beings? I don’t think so. Second, the importance given to certain things is influenced by personal factors: personality, mentality. Third, if one pays attention to things considered as less important, he or she will not necessarily fail to succeed in important issues.
What is important in life? How such complex notions can be defined? There isn’t an universal definition of what is important or not. The perception of people is influenced by their religion, culture, ethnic origin and traditions. Many others factors can influence the perception that people have of their environment. For example, people who live in an urban environment have a different mentality of those who live in the countryside.
A huge diversity of persons is included in mankind. Even inside one cultural, there’s an important variability according to the persons, is it possible to generalize, even to a group of persons this notion of importance concerning some things? I don’t think so. For example, some people are materialistic, they see money as the most important thing in the world, whereas for people interested in spirituality, money is a peripheral thing.
Do we necessarily need to choose between paying attention to details and things considered as essential? I don’t think so. It is implied in the subject that we should choose between paying attention to details and succeeding concerning the things we consider as the most important, like, for example, people who suffer from a certain type of personality disorder, who very often fail to achieve their goals because they are too focused on details.
To conclude, I would say that I don’t agree with the statement above because it’s impossible to give an universal definition of what is important. Even inside one group, people aren’t all same and don’t see the same things as important. And it’s not necessary to choose between taking care of details and achieving what is important, it’s possible to do both.
