Dear Respectable Teachers/ Students,
I am little bit confuse regarding the following sentences. Could you please explain for me?
- We have had the meeting in our office. ( in which sentences we use have + had both)
- And what is the meaning of Richard’s and Richards’ (apostrophe).
Thanks ,
-
We use the Present Perfect tense to talk about action which started in the past and continues up to the present or the very recent past.
example: I have had this computer for about a year.
In your example, the meeting has just ended. If it had ended some time ago, the correct sentence would be ‘we had the meeting…’

The difference is probably in the name, rather than the apostrophe:
Richard’s house - the house belonging to Richard.
The Richards’ house - The house belonging to the Richards (family)… although this is not strictly the correct format, it is often seen written this way instead of (correctly) ‘The Richards’s house’.
The only other possibility is that in the second phrase the person is speaking about more than one person named Richard and so the apostrophe denoted plural use as it does here:
the pen’s lid.
the pens’ lids.
Thank you,
I understood 1st , but 2nd one could you please expalin, the pen’s lid and the pens’ lids. ( could you please explaing " ’ " where we use apostrphe.
Thank you very much Beeesneees… now i understood,
