Playing computer games is a waste of time

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Playing computer games is a waste of time. Children should not be allowed to play them.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Recent articles have raised an important issue that playing computer games is a waste of time. Therefore, it is incontrovertible that children should and must not be allowed to play them. However, at one extreme are those computer games companies, which claim that computer games are purely sources of entertainment. At the other end, detractors disagree with that viewpoint; strongly support the idea that playing computer games is a waste of time. Therefore, advocates are pushing forward for the virtue that children should not be allowed to play computer games. In my opinion, I agree with the latter for two primary reasons.
First of all, children spend a large amount of time playing computer games. It is clear that a huge number of children those days spend hours playing computer games. As a result, their lives’ balance were seriously threaten since other activities that are of paramount importance have not been carried out. The issue existing in Vietnamese society today still remains a supreme example of the argument set forth herein. A decade ago there was a well-known Chinese online game being introduced to the Vietnamese market. The debut of this game bolstered the significant growth in the number of online computer games. As a result, there was a simultaneous increase in the number of children playing computer games. At first, the number of children was not so significant that the society could realize the upcoming threats. In the next few years, the number of children playing computer games increased significantly that computer games stores are always filled up with students after school time. The government later recognized the national issue of computer games. Therefore, they passed through a legislation that prohibits the opening of computer games stores that are one kilometre close to schools.
Secondly, computer games are primarily games that do not require the intensive use of mind power. In fact, computer games cannot attract players if they are too difficult to be played. Therefore, companies that produce computer games always demand the use of attracting appearance in game design and specific guidelines in order to achieve the required tasks in games. However, these guidelines are unnecessary long and wordy in order to guarantee the player’s long-term participation. Therefore, as a result, beside spending a huge amount of time on computer games, children mental development gain almost nothing from playing those games. In some cases, children mental development is threaten by sexual attractive appearance of the characters in the computer games or by the inherent violent scene. For example, the computer game Vice City is among the top popular video games at the moment. Its success can be attributed to the cutting-edge designed characters as well as those realistic gun-fighting scenes. It is an intensifying certainty that these games have implications on nothing in a child’s development, beside costing him with a waste of time.
In conclusion, taking into account the fact that children spend a large amount of time on computer games and the detrimental threats brought by computer games, I would argue that children should not be allowed to play them.

I think that this question of computer games will be “hot” next few years as well, haha. This is sad actually.

I think there always should be a gap/balance between what our children do via their computers. If they do play computer games – we should allow different games once our kids will “acquire” the next phase in their lives.

Apart from computer games, we should remember the existence of gambling and online casino. Especially in the mobile sphere, where it is the more usual thing when children “accidentally” bought some in-game features and thus they spent a lot of money of their parents.

I have read the article with title “dear day result today” regarding lotteries where it was mentioned about the earlier addictions. I mean, playing lotteries is fine, especially when you are “digging” inside the game with reading additional resources. But it is still necessary to remember about the gap.

The question of computer games is simple: leisure or addiction? I believe in the former.

Just to let you know I’ve removed the spam from your post and have locked it.

If you consider my message as “spam”, then why did you remove only one simple and harmless link? It was just an example.
