Phrase "often is"?

Hi,
I’ve come across this quotation:

“Learning by experience often is painful- and the more it hurts, the more you learn.”

Ralph Banks

=> I just wonder if “often” is all right in this position (in standard English)

Many thanks

Jan: It’s been a painful way to learn.

Minnie: Learning by experience often is painful.

Hi,

The change of word order (from is often) is probably used here for emphasis. You ask whether it’s ‘standard’ and that is a very difficult question to answer. I find it perfectly acceptable when used for emphasis.
