Hi,
Is the use of ‘others’ in the following sentence ok? I mean, can it be used for things/animals besides people?
Thank you very much.
Hi,

It can be used when the noun represented by that pronoun is clear… but in that sentence, it is not clear to me; it needs to read ‘and other livestock’.
Mm… I used ‘others’ because it’s not livestock (there’re fish, turtle, and the like). Could you please give me an example in which ‘others’ can be used to mean things/animals?
Many thanks again.
I used ‘others’ because it’s not livestock (there’re fish, turtle, and the like).– Even more reason not to use ‘others’!
The zebras, the lions, and the others on the Ark decided to go on strike.
Thank you very much for the example, Mister Micawber. Unfortunately I still can’t understand why ‘others’ should not be used in my sentence to mean other animals
Because it is too wide Abc, ‘Others’ could apply to absolutely anything… exporting pigs, poultry, grain, beet, humans, equipment, machinery…
You have to specify that you mean ‘other animals’.
